Hot Chip | 21/05/12
Hot Chip are pretty damn excited to share their Peter Serafinowicz-directed video for Night And Day, the first single from their forthcoming fifth LP, In Our Heads (the album is out on June 11th). The (really quite awesome) video features appearances from Terence Stamp, Reggie Watts, Lara Stone and of course the music constructors themselves, Hot Chip.
"Many animals were harmed during the making of this video. Regrettably, none of them made the final edit" – Peter Serafinowicz

ORIGINAL MAX TUNDRA COVER ART DONATED TO AUCTION!
Max Tundra | 17/05/12
One of the very best electronic albums of last decade, Max Tundra's Mastered By Guy at The Exchange is a solid-gold smash that I would instantly recommend to you if I didn't know that you hip and well-informed cats already owned and loved it.
But why mention this now? Well, as some of you may have figured out from the descriptive title of this news piece, Max has donated the original painting used as the cover art for the album to a charity auction aiming to raise money for awesome freeform non-commercial New Jersey radio station WFMU.
So why not head on over to the eBay page and make a bid? But first, enjoy the video for Lysine, a single from that album, just because:

REAL ESTATE OFFER YOU EXACTLY NOTHING
Real Estate | 15/05/12
Get those raincoats off and those sunglasses on because Real Estate's easy-breezy awesomewave track "Exactly Nothing" is going to be released as their next single on the 2nd July 2012. It's not from last year's critically lauded album, Days, but it's very much in the same mood (by which I mean "good") and very much of the same quality (by which I mean "awesome").
You can listen to that big slice of summer right here:
The New Jersey band will be back to the UK to play their biggest show to date at Camden's Electric Ballroom on Wednesday June 27th and will be joined by New York's Frankie Rose and London's The Proper Ornaments. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased here.
The show comes following sold-out gigs at London's Scala and Koko alongside Kurt Vile.
And why not psyche yourself into the Real Estate gig mood by watching the band's full set from Coachella right here?

MAGNETIC FIELDS RELEASE NEW "RUBBISH" VIDEO
The Magnetic Fields | 09/05/12
You would no doubt be surprised to hear that The Magnetic Fields had released a rubbish video, but that is the case. Well, actually the video is wonderful, but it's about rubbish. Rubbish bins to be exact.
In typical iconoclastic fashion, Stephin Merritt et al have put out a lovely video for the latest single from Love at the Bottom of the Sea: "Quick!", which has at its heart a tentative love affair by two of the loveliest rubbish bins (or "trash cans" for our American audience) you have doubtless ever laid eyes on. The song itself is a strident while utterly heartbroken eulogy for a stricken relationship, constructed around a glacial synth-bass line and featuring the pitch-perfect Merritt couplet: "Torture me for your amusement/Oh but who will pay the rent?".
The video, though, is a much more life-affirming affair. Watch it here, now, for FREE!

A BONNIE 'PRINCE' BILLY EXTRAVAGANZA!
Bonnie Prince Billy | 30/04/12
Hang on to your beards, because it's a bumper Bonny bag o' bits today; a whole bucketful of news. Are you sitting comfortably (preferably with a glass of your favourite moonshine-flavoured soft drink)? Then let's get to it.
2012 is shaping up to be a celebratory year for Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. First there was Will Oldham on Bonnie 'Prince' Billy – the recently published book of his reflections on a truly idiosyncratic approach and ethos that have seen him rub shoulders and share stages/recording space with the disparate likes of Johnny Cash, R Kelly, James Earl Jones and Bjork in a quarter-century stretch of fearless artistry. The wonderful Faber & Faber published conversation with long time collaborator and friend Alan Licht illuminates the scope and scale of Bonny's unique vision, allowing never-before-gleaned insight into the ideas of mystery, intimacy, spontaneity and community that run deep through his formidable canon of work.
Between 1993's There Is No-One What Will Take Care Of You Palace Brothers debut and last year's Bonnie 'Prince' Billy return Wolfroy Goes To Town, Bonny has released no less than seventeen studio albums, twenty-five EPs and five live albums. Be it in the guise of Palace Brothers, Palace Music, Bonnie 'Prince' Billy or simply under his birth name, the integrity of Bonny's output has remained a constant and his journey through (and indelible impression on) the storied landscapes of American country, folk, punk and indie-rock is incomparable.
It is in the spirit of celebration of an artistic life so remarkable that Domino is this year to re-issue six classic Bonnie 'Prince' Billy recordings dated between 1996 and 2004. On July 30th, new, re-named editions of Palace Brothers release Arise Therefore (1996) and Joya (1997), the definitive Bonnie 'Prince' Billy debut I See A Darkness (1999) and subsequent BPB albums Ease Down The Road (2001), Master And Everyone (2003) and Greatest Palace Music (2004) will be available under Oldham's now stable Bonnie 'Prince' Billy moniker.
Whether starkly primitive and intensely spare as Arise Therefore, rich with haunted grace like I See A Darkness or swinging with an almost straight-up country lushness on Greatest Palace Music, these albums represent a golden era for Bonny as a writer – his powerfully affecting, deeply human meditations on sex, death, isolation and longing achieving a rare universal understanding despite being rooted in a fiercely intimate system of belief.
For less compulsively prolific and relentlessly creative artists it may be tempting to sit back and enjoy such a handsome retrospective at this moment in time but that is plainly not the Bonnie 'Prince' Billy way. Enter another new release, the Now Here's My Plan EP – a collection consisting of new versions of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy classics recorded by Steve Albini, due for release in accompaniment with the Will Oldham on Bonnie 'Prince' Billy book on June 4th and separately through Domino on July 24th. Now Here's My Plan features members of the Wolfroy Goes To Town band with whom Bonnie 'Prince' Billy currently tours and records. You can pre-order Now Here's My Plan HERE.
The track listing of the Now Here's My Plan EP is as follows:
- I Don't Belong To Anyone
- Beast For Thee
- No Gold Digger
- After I Made Love To You
- I See A Darkness
- Three Questions
The Wolfroy players are Ben Boye, Van Campbell, Emmett Kelly, Danny Kiely and Angel Olsen.
The six Bonnie 'Prince' Billy albums which are being reissued on the 30th of July are:
- Arise Therefore
- Joya
- I See A Darkness
- Ease Down The Road
- Master and Everyone
- Greatest Palace Music
