James Yorkston & The Big Eyes Family Players | 17/09/09
Following the release of ‘Folk Songs’, James Yorkston’s much lauded fifth studio album, which sees the Scottish singer/songwriter teaming up with The Big Eyes Family Players on an album of traditional songs, James Yorkston and The Big Eyes Family Players are to release a new single on 9 November 2009.
‘Mary Connaught & James O’Donnell’ is taken from ‘Folk Songs’ and will be available on digital download and limited edition 7” formats, with both formats being available exclusively from Domino Mart and the 7” also being on sale at James Yorkston and The Big Eyes Family Players October and November UK dates (see below).
James’ arrangement of a traditional Irish song from Peter Kennedy’s collection, the 7” of ‘Mary Connaught & James O’Donnell’ also features a brand new track, ‘Barbara Allen’, which James learnt from the singing of Bess Cronin and which also features Sweet William and David A Jaycock, who will be touring with the band. In addition, the 7” comes complete with a download code, which will allow you to download a remix of ‘Folk Songs’’ track ‘I Went To Visit The Roses’ by the mysterious Silver Columns.
Presenting ‘Folk Songs’ live, all shows of the October / November tour are with James Yorkston and The Big Eyes Family Players. Alasdair Roberts will also be playing at the Leeds and London dates and Marry Gilhooley of the legendary Waterson family will be special guest at the London show.
