ANNA CALVI AND KING CREOSOTE & JON HOPKINS NOMINATED FOR THE 2011 MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE
King Creosote and Jon Hopkins and Anna Calvi | 19/07/11
Domino and Double Six are thrilled to announce that two of our albums have been nominated for the 2011 Mercury Music Prize. Amongst the twelve albums shortlisted this year are Anna Calvi’s self-titled debut and the first collaborative album from King Creosote & Jon Hopkins, Diamond Mine. The Mercury Music Prize Awards will take place on September 6th at Grosvenor House in London.
London based Anna Calvi’s debut album was released to great worldwide critical acclaim in January of this year. Anna’s debut is an astonishingly confident record showcasing the unique strengths of her songwriting, singing and guitar playing. The ghosts of Nina Simone and Maria Callas lurk in the corners of Calvi’s muse, as does the classical romanticism of Ravel and Debussy, a set of disparate influences informing Calvi’s thoroughly unique and modern music.
Anna Calvi is performing at many festivals over the Summer including Field Day and Reading and Leeds, and will tour the UK later this year with a London show at Shepherds Bush Empire on November 1st.

KING CREOSOTE & JON HOPKINS:
Last March saw the release of Diamond Mine, a collaborative album from King Creosote and Jon Hopkins. Featuring lyrics and vocals from King Creosote sung over musical backdrops arranged and recorded by Jon Hopkins, Diamond Mine is a genuine labour of love, recorded over a number of years without the pressure of deadlines, whenever Jon and KC could get together.
The album, featuring instrumental moments as affecting as the lyrical, consists of newly interpreted obscure delights picked out from 20 years of King Creosote’s treasure chest of a back catalogue. Intended to be heard as a single experience, Diamond Mine produces a near classical suite of emotion ranging from cracked despair to patched-up euphoria.
Currently on tour in the US, King Creosote & Jon Hopkins will be performing in the UK this September with a London show at the Queen Elizabeth Hall on September 9th.
