WILD BEASTS AND VILLAGERS NOMINATED FOR THE 2010 MERCURY MUSIC PRIZE
Various Artists | 20/07/10
Domino is thrilled to announce that two of our albums have been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2010. Last year’s sublime Two Dancers from the Lake District’s Wild Beasts and the recently released Becoming a Jackal from Dublin-based Villagers are amongst the twelve albums shortlisted for this year’s prize.
WILD BEASTS - TWO DANCERS
Wild Beasts’ second album, Two Dancers, was released last summer to exceptional critical acclaim. Wild Beasts made a record of earthly pleasures that sounded thrillingly widescreen, open and in awe of life; equally intoxicated and disturbed by the possibilities of pleasure. Two Dancers is a streamlined, minimalist and user friendly Wild Beasts, moving with equal grace and gusto, equally elegant and ugly. A "5 star" review in the Sunday Times, features in NME, MOJO, Uncut and a "Number 1 Album of the Year" plus cover of The Fly have proven the band’s wide appeal and steadily growing fanbase. The four-piece has recently performed heroic sets at Glastonbury, the i-tunes festival, Latitude and Lovebox, and are soon to play Kendal Calling, Green Man, Leeds / Reading and Bestival, before they start working on their much anticipated third LP.
VILLAGERS - BECOMING A JACKAL
Villagers are Conor J. O’ Brien and friends, who won over many hearts with their debut Becoming a Jackal, released in spring this year. Becoming a Jackal introduced us to Villagers’ vivid narratives, gripping poetry and melodic depth. Conor J. O’Brien’s clear and distinctive voice weaves a remarkable spell, delivering an album of rare and alarming beauty. Having already headlined a tour of the UK and performed with the likes of Neil Young and Tindersticks, you will be able to catch Villagers live at the Edinburgh Edge Festival, Big Chill, Leeds/ Reading and Bestival. They will also be performing two very special and now sold out shows on the 4th and 5th of August, as the first live act ever to play the Tunnels under the Old Vic Theatre in London. A headline performance at the Scala has just been confirmed for the 5th October. The stunning "Ship Of Promises" will be released as the next single on 2nd August.
